Julius Caesar ruled Ancient Rome from 46 to 44 B.C.E. when he was assassinated by Marcus Junius Brutus, alongside 60 fellow conspirators on the Roman Senate House floor; the Senate wanted to stop his dictatorship. Caesar’s death triggered a Civil War in Rome. This led to the rise of Octavius, Caesar’s great nephew and adopted son. He ruled Rome as Augutus Caesar.
