Welcome to the great hip stretch Sleeping Swan as we call it in Yin Yoga or Pigeon pose as it’s called in Hatha Yoga. Be sure to find the stretch in the hip as opposed to knee. If this position isn’t right for your body you can modify with a folded blanket under the hip for support or come onto the back for Reclining Thread Needle Pigeon as an alternative. It’s incredible to see the popularity of Yin Yoga having exploded the last several years!If you think about it holding long seated poses has been around since the ancient times of Raja Yoga (Royal Yoga) when the yogi would sit for hours in Full Lotus.In the 10th Century there were only 15 poses and 8 of these were seated. But as history and yoga continued to evolve there was a greater movement towards standing poses over seated poses.Both have their benefits but it’s good to see students and yog

Saddle Pose in Yin Yoga provides a deep stretch for the ankles, thighs, knees and lower back. Start by crossing the legs in front of us, then rolling over onto the knees.
