Is color what determines if a sand dollar... . Is alive? The answer is No. . In fact, you can find deceased sand dollars in many colors like grey, brown, white, and sometimes purple. 🐚 . The presence of cilia (hairs) on the sand dollar's body is the sole factor to determining if it is alive or deceased. 💯 . I came across lots of live sand dollars a few months back in the Ten Thousand islands. We were experiencing an ultra-low tide and these were left out. 🐚 . Thankfully, they had access to water through the wet sand and the tide was coming back in soon. I helped this guy out by flipping him right side up 💜 . Have you ever seen this?
