Welding table top, material choice and thickness
2014年4月1日 · I called a metal supplier near Pittsburgh earlier today about buying a 36" x 24" plate of steel to use as the top for a section of a work bench we are building into my son's new garage. I intend to inset the plate into the table-top where it will be the "welding table" I know know next to nothing about alloys of steel or it's finishing.

2010年3月4日 · I currently have table approx. 2ft x 6ft which has metal legs and a wooden top covered with galvanized sheet steel. There is no wood showing. It was in the house when my parents bought it, so i decided to use it. My question is this: Is it okay to weld on this table since it is galvanized? Could i use it as my regular welding/project table?

if all you're doing is small thin-wall or sheet work then yeah 3/16" is fine. but if you want to clamp a piece of 3/16" wall 3" square tube down so it stays square during welding, then a sheet-metal table top isn't going to cut it. personally i wouldn't use anything less than 1/4" plate for a table. my table is 3' x 6' x 1/2" thick.
Why isnt Aluminum Used for welding tables?
2010年2月1日 · My welding table is made of 1" Kaiser Precision 6061 T651. Its 48" x 48" with a large cut out on one side for me to work from. The precision aluminum was a good solution as compaired to buying steel plate, then having it blanchard gound to a similar tolerance. The table top is drilled and tapped every 4".

I know it shouldn’t be painted because it couldn’t create an electrical connection to the metal being welded. Also, paint probably would not handle the heat well. I’m using a ¼” thick piece of steel plate for the top. The plan is to clamp that to the rest of the table so it can be easily replaced if it becomes damaged over time.

All the scare stories you've heard, about instant death, from welding galvanized, are just that. Urban legends. If you are not prepared, you would probably WISH you were dead, but that's normal. That all being said, I would probably not set up a welding table with a galvanized top. Remember, a welding table is supposed to make life easier for you.

2010年11月10日 · I wonder if connecting it to the welding table and the steel cabinet my equipment is in would help limit some of the HF interference. If this HF hammers my MP3 player, I'm sure the laptop computer is also having to fend the HF off. There is a difference between an earth ground and the circuit ground clamp on your welding machine.
