Magna Carta (1215) This charter of liberties issued by King John in April 1215 was the first and most enduring statement of the rights of "freeborn Englishmen." This facsimile is one of three surviving examples of the original document, revered for its protections against arbitrary imprisonment and seizure of property without due process of law.

There follows the text in Latin and in English translation of Magna Carta of 1225, the third Great Charter of Henry III. This is the definitive version that received statutory confirmation by Edward I in 1297, thereby entering the Statutes of the Realm as the first English statute.
Full-text translation of the 1215 edition of Magna Carta Clauses marked (+) are still valid under the charter of 1225, but with a few minor amendments.
