Infundibula may rarely represent a direct source of rupture and SAH. Exploratory craniotomy is required to establish the diagnosis and to provide definitive treatment. To label a case of SAH as angiogram-negative may be unwise when an IF potentially colocalizes to the SAH source.

Objective: An infundibulum of the posterior communicating artery (PcomA) or infundibular dilatation (ID) is considered to be a benign anatomical variant. However, some evidence suggests that ID is a pre-aneurysmal state. This case series presents cases of ruptured IDs and aneurysms originating from the IDs.

SAH is caused by the rupture of an intracranial aneurysm, which leads to the extravasation of blood under high pressure into the subarachnoid space. SAH triggers a cascade of events that can result in severe disability or even death.
