Animal noises are a simple example. Ideophone is a term that refers only to a limited number of languages where it identifies some special morphological or lexical peculiarity, often associated with onomatopoeia. Strictly speaking, English doesn't have ideophones, though there is certainly plenty of onomatopoeia.

2017年12月28日 · I wouldn't say it's particularly uncommon, just maybe that the bulk of ideophone-heavy languages are either in East Asia or Africa. (I mean, other features can also be area-specific, e.g. classifier systems are most common in American languages and in East Asia, but people don't make the claim that classifiers are 'uncommon' based on that.)

It matches time length of syllable with physical length of body features, which is already an iconic metaphor (TIME = LENGTH), and the definition of onomatopeia is 'sounding like what it means', which can only apply to aural features. Like "cock-a-doodle-do" and "looooooong".
