2009年9月27日 · To silver solder stainless steel you need a flux that contains a fluoride salt to remove the chromium oxide film that forms on the metal immediately after cleaning. And don't forget to remove all flux residue immediately after silver soldering as the flux will attack (corrode) the stainless steel via a process called "intergranular corrosion".

I have used this trick in silver soldering (or silver brazing) stainless steel and bronze belt buckle parts together. These are fairly fine parts, so the joints are closely fit.

As for the silversolder v.s. braze, I will be using harris stay 40% (I think)silver, silver solder, and the part will be part of a soldered connecting rod on a steam engine as called out in the plans. The thing is the plan calls out for a steel on steel bearing.
