2005年9月19日 · Many hat shops clean the hat in Naptha. You have to remove the liner. The sweat remains insde the hat. It gets soaked and scrubbed as needed. Then spun on a spinner in the solvent tank. It air dries over night. They then reblock and brush the hat, re-sew the liner, and you have a good as new clean hat.

If it is a soft felt hat like a fedora with a snap brim and the hat is soaked, leave the hat, brim turned up, on a flat surface with a towel underneath. You can glue a piece of backing on the inside of the hat, and using clear glue, "repair" it. But it won't ever, ever, be the same.

2005年9月19日 · I agree with using fresh water/distilled water to clean the hat. I had an akubra get splashed with whale water (salt and urine) at Sea World. Only the top of the hat got splashed and showed salt water marks once dry. I cleaned it by submerging the hat (top only) in water and gently scrubbing with a hat sponge while it was under water. It worked.

As suggested above, I wet the hat down with hot water and a little dish soap, using a clean kitchen sink sponge, brushing counterclockwise, till it was saturated, but not dripping and reformed the dome in the air like Mr. Rogers did in the video.
