Eagle Nest Lake is at an elevation of 8,300 feet (2,500 m), making it an alpine lake, and it is situated in a glacial valley on the slopes of Wheeler Peak, New Mexico's highest mountain. The surrounding mountains are rich in wildlife such as elk, deer, turkeys and bears.

Pretty calm and somewhat lonely fishing lake in Northern New Mexico. Several ramp access points including a Visitor Center. There's a campground as well as surrounding trailer parks. Fish for trout and pike. There are a couple of day use areas where you can park and walk in with your gear. Just up the road from trendy the Angel Fire resort area.
