It is rather heavier than what you might think (it's heavier than I expected it to be. It claims to be 1.1 lbs, but it durn sure feels heavier than that).

One thing I did that makes it work better for me is replacing the shorter handle with an 18" to 20" handle. It splits small wood great and can be used as a wedge for larger stuff.

I did get the opportunity to use a Gransfor's Bruks Small Forest Axe this week, and I have to tell you, the Estwing doesn't even compare. But that axe is a $160-$200 axe. So, I would definitely recommend the Estwing.
