The manuscript upon which Nohl based his edition is inscribed "Für Elise am 27 April zur Erinnerung von L.v.Bthvn" (for which scholarship has generally agreed that 1810 is the year) and apparently given to him by a certain Babeth Bredl from the possessions of Therese von Malfatti.
