Trilostane has an extensive dose range, and the starting doses can vary significantly. The manufacturer’s (Dechra) recommendation is a starting dose of 2.2 to 6.7 mg/kg once daily. Recent studies have shown, however, that lower initial doses are equally effective and may be safer.

For use in: dogs. VETORYL ® Capsules are indicated for the treatment of pituitary-dependent and adrenal-dependent hyperadrenocorticism in dogs.

Trilostane (Vetoryl®, Dechra Pharmaceuticals) is licensed for use in dogs for the treatment of pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism as well as for hyperadrenocorticism resulting from a functional adrenocortical tumor.

Trilostane is reported to be safe and effective in the treatment of pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (HAC), adrenal-dependent HAC, and alopecia X. While trilostane controls most of the clinical signs associated with HAC, abnormalities such as hypertension, hypercoagulability, and proteinuria may persist despite therapy.
