USS Discovery is a 3 Star, Rare Explorer ship "All things can be understood once they are discovered; the point is to discover them." This was the motto of the USS Discovery when it was launched into service.

The first “prime universe” ship to enter the game, after the announcement a few weeks ago that Scopely had acquired the rights. It’s a rare 3* explorer, and for purposes of the game, it’s a neutral ship, meaning the buffs that apply to a Federation ship won’t apply.

Summoning Research will allow you to summon other ships to the Discovery's location. So you can instantly teleport the Discovery, then summon other ships to it. Maybe you're late to a territory defense, or don't have enough time to make it to an armada, or just want to get your Stella to outlaw space quicker as you're farming your security codes.

The USS Discovery provides a significant Mycelium Spore mining bonus of 2100% and gives commanders a significant advantage when participating in the new Anomaly Events.

Discovery. The discovery is quite a weak warship, but has a quite useful ability. So while you should not be using it primarily to fight hostiles or other players, it is incredibly useful in getting itself and your other ships where you need to go. Out of the box, it can teleport itself anywhere within its warp range.
