This continued up until the Nvidia GeForce 700 series and the AMD R9 200 series. The R9 200 was significantly faster than the GF700, but NVidia then released the 900 series which put them back into the lead.

Maybe it's Nvidia fanboys poo-pooing it because so many AMD cards are shown to outperform Nvidia.
