RAF Thorpe Abbotts - Wikipedia
Royal Air Force Thorpe Abbotts or more simply RAF Thorpe Abbotts is a former Royal Air Force station located 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Diss, Norfolk, in eastern England. The station was built for the RAF use but handed over to the United States Army Air Forces in 1943 and upgraded for heavy bomber squadrons.

During the Second World War, Thorpe Abbotts became home to RAF Station Thorpe Abbotts with the designation 139, Thorpe Abbotts. [7] The airfield was built in 1942 by John Laing & Sons Ltd. The airfield had three intersecting runways laid with concrete which were encircled by a three and a half mile perimeter road. [8]

Although overgrown these gates are of possible of wartime origin and are near the site of a Bulk Fuel Installation on the north west side of the airfield. This modern hangar that has been built on Wartime Hardstand 17. Believed to have been used for a light aircraft in the 1980's. It is now disused and is used for storage.
