In the present study, we undertook the process of evaluating nodules with peripher-al calcifications to determine whether there was indeed a significant incidence of malig-nancy among these nodules.

The ACR guidelines assign a higher malignancy risk to peripheral calcification than for macrocalcification. However, our study showed that nodules with rim calcification showed a lower malignancy risk than that in nodules with macrocalcification in the analysis of all nodules.

We retrospectively analyzed the ultrasonographic features of 65 pathologically proven thyroid lesions showing peripheral calcification for their correlation with histopathologic results.
