2011年12月11日 · It's a spirit stove, so meths. NOT petrol or paraffin. Adding water to the fuel doesn't make it hotter, it just makes the blue flames yellow, which some people like because it makes them easier to see in daylight. The water also corrodes the wire armature of the filter inside the vapourising tube, so is best avoided.

The meths bottle reads: For Spirit burner fuel and cleans and degreases. I was going to pick a couple of bottles up at my local DIY store but noticed 2 litres of white spirit was only £3.50 + buy 2 get 3rd one free.

2005年8月9日 · A methylated spirits bottle supplied by Boots Company, Nottingham, England (UK) I don't know the date of this bottle but it looks to be from the 1950s or 1960s - unless someone has a better idea. The cork is new. The bottle holds about 200ml.

2011年8月4日 · I have 2 trangia stoves for overhaul, which were very dirty with soot and gum from burning methylated spirit, I have cleaned the one with dilute phosphoric acid, and this removed nearly all of the deposit, I have also blown air through the jets since some flames were not appearing, I have finally wased the whole burner in hot soapy water.

2011年1月29日 · Indeed, the methylated spirits I'm getting in the UK at the moment is dreadful in terms of the smell when burning, almost eye-watering stuff. Alcohol burners don't put out as much heat as kero or LPG ones, and that's certainly the case with that Homestrand Mariner I featured.

2011年7月29日 · I tried wicking material for lamps and a 1 cm layer did burn around 5 minutes, enough to boil 1/2 liter of water, but it would smoulder with a red ember, after the spirit had finished and it destroyed the wick. Winter attachment: I made a ring of 3mm fiberglass, glued together, and placed around the threaded top of a Trangia burner.
