2013年1月23日 · louver press idea, I used the tools at UVU 5 years ago to punch my deck lid on my 31 Nash roadster. Chris Davenport now owns salt flats speed shop in Orem Utah, He built a 40 willys Coupe from aluminum when he was a student at UVU. I heard that He modified the college press so he could do the roof for a 32 sedan.

2009年7月23日 · Nice frame there Cowtown. The concept would also work well with a wheel. For a small shop, perhaps a way to change the function to use the same frame for the English wheel, louver press, and a planishing hammer. The problem is usually just turnover time in a busy shop. Filed this one away for future use.

2013年4月25日 · My pal Moe Miller bought the old louver press from Jerry (J&J Customs) in San Jose in 1978. This press frame was fabricated from 1/4" steel plate, in a large 'C' shape, looked like a huge micrometer standing on its spool. It was old when my Mom had Jerry punch the hood of her '48 Cadillac in 1955!

2010年3月23日 · I have a set of 25 Louver hood sides on my deuce sedan. I was looking at them one day and wondered if they were original from 1932 or repops. The car has been finished for quite some time. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a way to tell the difference between orginal and repop 25 louver hood sides.

2013年4月19日 · Having owned a louver press and have done 1000's of punches, dont expect to much quality that you could start doing them for others and start charging money. Dave is a great guy and realy has made a difference to this hobby with affordable tools, but they tend to favor the do it just for yourself type of hobbyest.

2013年1月9日 · Also depends on what quality you want, the last two post are a perfect example, notice the louvers on the car are not crisp around the base or the ends of the louver, done with a simple shear/punch and more than likely an open bottom die, but if you look at the louvers in the post previous to this, you'll notice how crisp the louver is, done with a true stripper …

2006年10月2日 · Here are some pics of my just completed louver press. I started out with the heavy duty frame from an old Oliver jig saw that I bought for $100. I scrounged up an old two way ram with a broken end and a 12volt power unit from a lift gate. I made my own dies from tool steel with a lot of grinding and filing.

2022年7月25日 · Don, the hood on your 5 window is a Rootlieb 25 louver style but it's the early one, all the louvers are the same length, the Henry styled 25 louver has the front two louvers shorter, the first isn't punched and is just to stiffen the hood as is the 25th louver, the Henry style also has the louvers wide enough to stick your finger in.

2018年7月26日 · The guy at the metal stripping shop was the one who suggested the louver shop. Hood has to be clean bare metal inside and out where you want the louvers punched with no pookie or dings. As far as warpage I'd say that might come from getting carried away and putting the louvers too close to the curves on the hood.
