Mothership is a compilation album featuring songs from Led Zeppelin, LZII, LZIII, LZIV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, and In Through The Out Door. There are two deluxe editions that come with a DVD featuring several live performances.

In spite of the fact that there's virtually no irony, angst or personal hang-ups to be found in the Zeppelin index, its art is now universal, as appealing to art-school aesthetes as it is to the smoking-section crowd that's been with it since day one. Mothership pulls from all eight of the band's studio albums with 24 tracks over two discs.

Weighing in at two discs and 24 tracks, Mothership has a sense of scale that the previous round of compilations -- the two-part Early Days & Latter Days, delivered in 1999 and 2000 respectively -- lacked, not just because it pushes these two phases together but because it is heavy on the heavy epics, emphasizing Zeppelin's sheer sonic ballast over either their lighter or more idiosyncratic moments.
