High protein, low calorie kibble - Dog Forum
Aug 1, 2024 · Hi, I'm looking to transition my 13 yo lab to a high protein, low calorie good quality kibble. Those two requirements seem to be contradictory... when I run across a high protein choice (greater than 30%), it seems to be higher in calories as well (greater than 325 calories).

Oct 1, 2024 · Since canned food can be every bit as high-calorie as kibble, I see no reason your vet would have recommended it except for the fact that there is a higher water content to fill the dog up. So, since you are doing well with the kibble, soaking it will achieve the same result, and you can just reduce the amount you are giving the dog.

May 14, 2017 · I tried to find a higher calorie food for her, but couldn't find any in soft food. Unfortunately, she cannot eat hard kibble because her Megaesophagus interferes with her ability to swallow it and she throws it all up. If anyone has any suggestions for a high calorie soft food, we would appreciate it a lot and than you in advance.

Sep 15, 2018 · Since your dog has severe issues, I would suggest probably what your vet has, at least four meals a day. They don't have to be big but they should be high quality, with protein, fat and carbohydrates but not sugars or corn. Feeding sugary foods can make their blood sugar rise and than crash (I should know since I have low-blood sugar myself).

He's been power packed (dewormed), and vet checked. They suggested a more fattening food, I'm using Pedigree adult dog food with Taste of the Wild Salmon Oil.
