It has the chemical formula CuFeS 2 and crystallizes in the tetragonal system. It has a brassy to golden yellow color and a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
Chalcopyrite: Mineral Uses and Properties - Geology.com
What is Chalcopyrite? Chalcopyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a chemical composition of CuFeS 2. It occurs in most sulfide mineral deposits throughout the world and has been the most important ore of copper for thousands of years. The surface of chalcopyrite loses its metallic luster and brass-yellow color upon weathering. It tarnishes to a ...
Chalcopyrite: Copper Ore, Properties (Photo) – Geology In
Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulfide mineral, with the chemical formula CuFeS₂. Because of its abundance and ease of extraction, chalcopyrite is the dominant ore for obtaining copper. It's found in hydrothermal veins and can be associated with other sulfide minerals such as pyrite, sphalerite, and galena.

chalcopyrite, the most common copper mineral, a copper and iron sulfide, and a very important copper ore. It typically occurs in ore veins deposited at medium and high temperatures, as in Río Tinto, Spain; Ani, Japan; Butte, Mont.; and Joplin, Mo .
The Mineral chalcopyrite - The Mineral and Gemstone Kingdom
Chalcopyrite is the main ore of copper. Chalcopyrite is sometimes polished into beads and pendants as cheap jewelry. Chalcopyrite is a fairly common mineral, and therefore only the finest of localities will be mentioned. Large, well shaped crystals occur in numerous places in Cornwall, England, especially at the Carn Brea area.
