Catechol - Wikipedia
Catechol (/ ˈkætɪtʃɒl / or / ˈkætɪkɒl /), also known as pyrocatechol or 1,2-dihydroxybenzene, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C6H4(OH)2. It is the ortho isomer of the three isomeric benzenediols. This colorless compound occurs naturally in trace amounts.
The catechol ring is a mere 6-carbon phenyl ring. 3,4-dihydroxybenzene, to be nerdishly precise. What makes it catechol is the presence of the exciting hydroxyl groups at the 3 and 4 position. Otherwise, its just boring old phenol. These two hydroxyl groups are what enables the catechol ring to be effective
Structure and function relationships of catecholamine molecules
2015年6月30日 · Catecholamines are based on the catechol ring, which is a phenol with hydroxyl groups at the 3 and 4 position. To this is added an ethylamine tail, which produces phenylethylamine.
Catechol - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
A catechol is an unsaturated six-carbon ring (phenolic group) with two hydroxyl groups attached to adjacent carbons (dihydroxyphenol) (see Figure 3-1). Attachment of the catechol ring to a side chain with an amine group characterizes a catecholamine.
Catecholamines 101 - PMC
Catecholamines are catechols, which are chemicals that have adjacent hydroxyl groups on a benzene ring. Catechol itself does not exist in the human body, but compounds that contain catechol as part of their molecular structure are called catechols.
Structure and synthesis of endogenous catecholamines
2015年6月30日 · Dopamine is the prototype catecholamine. It is naked and undecorated, a pure catechol ring attached to a pure ethylamine string. There are no additional groups to confuse its simple elegance. It lacks a beta-carbon group, so it is a weak agonist of both beta and alpha.
Mechanism for Catechol Ring-Cleavage by Non-Heme Iron ...
2004年7月3日 · Catechol is found to bind as a monoanion in agreement with experiments, while dioxygen is found to replace the water ligand. A spin-transition from the initial septet to a quintet state prepares the system for formation of a bridging peroxide with the catechol substrate.
