Radagast the Brown is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien 's legendarium. A wizard and associate of Gandalf, he appears briefly in The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales.

Radagast the Brown concerned himself mainly with plants and animals, and lived in Mirkwood for many years, before he was driven out when Sauron came to Dol Guldur. Saruman the White and Gandalf the Grey spent their time among Elves, Dwarves, and Men. Saruman was wise and respected, later becoming the head of the White Council in TA 2463.
