2023年4月29日 · Holdeman clothes are fairly different. Women avoid skirts and shirts (occasionally a rebellious person will wear this anyway) and handmade their dresses. However they have never worn cape dresses (despite what some academic who interviewed my in-laws claimed in her research paper). Internet allowed or not? Television? Music?

Beachy Amish women wear head coverings and Plain dresses, and men wear beards. However, Beachy Amish differ spiritually from Old Order Amish in that they emphasize doctrines such as assurance of salvation. They are also typically more mission-oriented than Old Order Amish.

There are several topical chapters of interest: one provides rebuttals for common objections to plain dress, another is a case study of a Mennonite group that abandoned plain dress, and a third chapter is the author’s testimony as to how and why he came to adopt plain dress.

However, like their Old Order cousins, women wear head coverings and plain dresses, and married men grow beards, signifying their adherence to traditional values. The Beachy Amish place a strong emphasis on the autonomy of local congregations, differing from other Conservative Mennonite groups that may have a more centralized form of governance.
