The Chickasaws do not have a tradition of a time when they were without belief in a supreme being, whom we call Abaꞌ Binniꞌliꞌ (Sitting or Dwelling Above) also called Inki Abu (Father Above) under Christian influence. There were ancient beliefs in a multitude of celestial powers.

From Chickasaw mythology, Aba' Bínni'li', translating to "The One That Sits Above," is the creator deity of the Chickasaw. He is often associated with the sun and the ceremonial fire of the stomp dance, where he is said to be present.

The Moon, Sun, Wind, Rainbow, Thunder, Fire and Water came to visit with Ababinili along with one human. Thunder asked Ababinili if he would make the people of the world his children. Ababinili told him, "No, they can't be your children, but they can be your grandchildren.

The supreme deity was Ababinili, a being uniting four celestial beings: Sun, Clouds, Clear Sky, and He That Lives in the Clear Sky. Fire was a manifestation of this being. There also were healers called alikice that combatted evil spirits.

The Chickasaw worshiped a supreme being they called Ababinili (also known as Inki Abu, “Father Above” under influence of christianity). This supreme being was said to have ruled over the four “Beloved Things” above.
