1966 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible 2bbl Upgrade
Nov 26, 2013 · I was given a convertible 1966 Ford Galaxie 500xl with a 2bbl 390 and have been reading posts for a couple of months now. Finally, I decided to step in and ask a few specific questions. I'm not looking to take the car to the drag strip, but it would be nice to get at least 400hp out of the car... and get that horsepower to the pavement.

Dec 13, 2019 · The 1966 galaxie 500 XL originally came with power 4 wheel drum brakes. One of the immediate upgrades was to migrate to 4 wheel power disc brakes. I've seen some of the aftermarket kits for these cars.

Apr 19, 2020 · One type of steering wheel and horn ring belong to the Custom and base galaxie 500. The other (fancier) horn ring and steering wheel belong to the galaxie 500 XL, LTD and Country Squire. Now I do believe the horn ring spring is the same, but the plastic retainer (which they sell new) is different between the two styles.

Sep 3, 2013 · The ones you saw for sale measured 15x5.5" and were used on 1965-67 Thunderbirds as well as '66-67 Ford Galaxie 7-Litres which were all equipped with Kelsey Hayes front brakes. Incidentally, those would fit fine on your '66 Galaxie XL. Ford ran 15x6" wheels on 1966 R-codes, wagons and all full-size police packages.

Apr 16, 2020 · Looking for an updated (am/fm, bluetooth?) radio that appears stock to go in a 65’ Galaxie 500 XL. So far, at least from the forums on here and general internet search, I haven’t been able to find 65/66. There are some 61-64 and 67-71’. Do the 64’ versions fit? 67’?

Dec 6, 2013 · been a while since I touched this thread but figured I'd do an update an the convertible 1966 Ford Galaxie 500xl 2bbl 390. I rebuilt the 2bbl but then destroyed the original radiator (that was a bad day). Decided to go a different route with good tires, sound braking, and nimble suspension to ensure safe driving.

Nov 1, 2013 · Two of the tests I am anxious in doing once the 1966 LTD and 1966 galaxie 500 XL are completed are suspension/handling tests and braking tests. The LTD still sports factory power drum brakes and the factory suspension whereas the galaxie 500 XL will have power 4 wheel disc and this enormous sway bar.

I also ordered this kit Moser Engineering R9FBS: Differential Installation Kit Ford 9" | JEGS which should let me use the new carrier to install my new ring and pinion without having to change anything else. All this because someone didn't take the time to re-torque a couple of bolts.

Jul 15, 2019 · 1966 Ford Galaxie 2-door "hardtop" (also known as Fastbacks) came in four flavors: Galaxie 500 (body-code 63B), Galaxie 500 XL (63C), Galaxie 500 7-Litre (63D) and LTD (63F). The reason the body code is important is it allows you to cross reference applications in the Ford Master Parts (MPC) catalog which is extremely useful.

Nov 1, 2013 · The 390 and larger engine cars received the large bearing Ford 9" axle and larger yoke for the larger stronger 1330 series Cardan joints. Now I know Ford discontinued the small bearing Ford 9" at least for the full size cars in 1967 and instead offered that WER Salisbury type (8.8 predecessor) and I do believe those also have the smaller yoke.
