Twelver Shīʿism (Arabic: ٱثْنَا عَشَرِيَّة; ʾIthnā ʿAshariyya), also known as Imāmiyya (Arabic: إِمَامِيَّة), is the largest branch of Shīʿa Islam, comprising about 85% of all Shīas.

Twelver Shi’ah, the largest of the three groups of Shi’ah extant today. They believe that, after the death of Muhammad, the lineage of Ali was ordained to take over leadership of the Muslim community. 2011年5月25日 · In Iran, except for a brief hiatus in the 18th century, Twelver Shiʿism has been the established faith since the early 16th century. The faith forms the basis of the present-day Islamic Republic, which came into being in 1979. As of 2010, nearly 90 percent of 70 million Iranians are professing Twelvers.

As the established faith in modern Iran, the majority faith in Iraq and areas in the Gulf and with its adherents forming sizeable minorities elsewhere in the region, Twelver Shi’ism is arguably the most successful branch of Shi’ism.
