Whats a hard slippery finish for wood?? - Woodworking Talk
2011年5月5日 · I would not use anything except nitrocellulose, pre-cat lacquer. It is by far the most durable, hard and "slippery" finish for this. And as you have the spray booth, I assume you also have a spray rig (hopefully HVLP). I like the pre-cat in water white. Just spray a few coats, allowing ample dry time in between and scuff sanding with 320 if needed.
Best finish for a desktop writing surface - Woodworking Talk
2010年4月12日 · I made a wood desk with a 3" wood edge on black high pressure laminate top. It looked rich and made a useful working desk top. On my sidebar I had the glass company make a nice finished edge on a 1/4" plate. That was a nice place to stick useless slogans and dead men's quotes from old books.
Hard finish for desktop - Woodworking Talk
2013年7月18日 · I'm building a desktop with a red oak frame and an inlay of zebrawood. I need a clearcoat that will make the top hard so fairly heavy use of the desktop will not effect the zebrawood. I've read about a table top epoxy that your pour on and have used the traditional clear coat stuff you can buy at Home Depot.
What finish would you choose for a this large, high-use desk?
2023年5月3日 · No wood finish that I know of is "self healing". The closest I can think of is danish oil and I would not put that in the durable category, but it is pretty easy to repair. As mentioned by others, the hard oil wax finishes might be better about this.
Clear, hard finish - Woodworking Talk
2008年5月28日 · I am building a table out of cottonwood for my place of business. Given that it is a very light colored, soft wood, I am looking for a finish that would be as "non-yellowing" as possible and also as hard as possible. I was thinking about an epoxy - …
Tried hard wax finish on pine - pigment rubs off too easily
2023年11月6日 · First off, I am new to the site and am (mostly) an amateur with respect to wood finishing. Anyway, recently I got hold of a piece of "live edge" pine to replace a cheap 6' sofa table top. I read a lot about the hard wax finishes (rubio, natura ) so I though I would give it a try. It turned out relatively well, however ...
smooth finish on rough wood? - Woodworking Talk
2017年11月14日 · The finish may dry to touch and you can handle it and sand it but it's not fully dry. If you keep adding coats it will refresh the previous coats and eventually with a thick coat when it fully dries can crack. If you have ever seen tempered glass which is also laminated break the finish ends up looking like that.
Shellac finish does not harden - Woodworking Talk
2007年12月28日 · Shellac is an evaporative finish and I suspect that the gel stain didn't allow the shellac to cure. Suggesting that wax will harden and protect is a very bad joke, it offers little protection against anything. There is a lot of mis-information regarding shellac and polyurethane varnish. Shellac is a very hard finish that is naturally glossy.
Homemade hardwax oil? - Woodworking Talk
2012年1月4日 · I'm new here. I operate a hardwood flooring business out of Toronto. I'm just curious to know what hard-wax oil really is. I know most of it is a sales pitch. I'd like to make my own if it's possible. I've gone through some MSDS sheets from various manufacturers of hard-wax oils and natural wax finishes. Most don't list much except the cobalt ...
How to fix shiny buffed spot on a matte finish - Woodworking Talk
2024年1月7日 · As you can imagine, it's hard to capture a difference in sheen with a static photo, but inthe attached pic circled in red you can make out the 3-4" glossy long streak on the beveled portion of the table top reflecting the light from above more sharply than the adjacent areas. Appreciate any help.
