Bampton, a historic Charter Town, lies in mid Devon close to the Somerset border, and is on the edge of the Exmoor National Park. For the visitor, Bampton is ideally sited in rural Devon, and is at the centre of an area where there is much to do and explore.

Bampton Charter Fair
Bampton Fair existed even before King Henry III granted it a Royal Charter in 1258 and it is always held on the last Thursday of October. It is one of the oldest surviving Charter Fairs in the country.

Bampton Heritage Centre - Tourist Information
Bampton Heritage & Visitor Centre Tourist Information. The Heritage Centre in the church is also the town's Tourist Information point. Here you can find a wealth of information in the form of leaflets, maps, and booklets, as well as friendly help from the volunteer on duty.
Bampton Charter Fair
Bampton Charter Fair is the older of the two fairs, and was originally known as St. Luke’s Fair. A Royal Charter was granted on 14th June 1258 to Master Osmund the rector of Bampton to hold an annual fair at the chapel of St.-Luke-Outside-the-Town on the “vigil, day, and the morrow” of Saint Luke (October 18th).

Bampton Short Mat Bowling Club has been running successfully for over 24 years! The club were lucky to recently be awarded a National Lottery Grant to purchase an electric mat roller. New players are most welcome to come and join in, no experience necessary.
