Term symbol - Wikipedia
In atomic physics, a term symbol is an abbreviated description of the total spin and orbital angular momentum quantum numbers of the electrons in a multi-electron atom. So while the word symbol suggests otherwise, it represents an actual value of a physical quantity .
8.8: Term Symbols Gives a Detailed Description of an Electron ...
2023年6月30日 · Atomic term symbols contain two pieces of information. They tell you the total orbital angular momentum of the atom (\(L\)), and they tell you the multiplicity (\(M\)). \(L\) is denoted by a simple code, similar to the code used to delineate the types of atomic orbitals:
11.2.1: Finding Microstates and Term Symbols
Each term symbol represents an atomic state with an associated energy level. If you have found all the possible microstates using a microstate table, and have identified their terms, then the term with the lowest energy (ie the ground state) can be found using Hund's first two rules.
The ground state of the helium atom has two electrons in the 1s shell, i.e. 1s2. This state has a spin moment S of 0 as the two spins cancel each other. The angular moment L is also 0. The term symbol of the ground state of a hydrogen atom is 1S. The first excited state of helium contains an
8.11: Using Atomic Term Symbols to Interpret Atomic Spectra
2023年6月30日 · The details of how to determine the term symbols for multi-electron atoms and for cases where both the orbital and spin angular momentum differ from zero are given elsewhere, along with rules for determining the relative energies of the terms.

CHAPTER 9
2S + 1 equals 2, thus the term symbol is written 2S. In helium, a second electron can occupy the 1s shell, provided it has the opposite spin. The total spin angular momentum is therefore zero, as is the total orbital an-gular momentum. The term symbol is 1S, as it will be for all other atoms with complete electron shells.
Helium - 2 He: properties of free atoms - WebElements
Helium atoms have 2 electrons and the shell structure is 2. The ground state electron configuration of ground state gaseous neutral helium is 1s 2 and the term symbol is 1 S 0.
Ground state of Helium. 2 electrons in 1s orbital; Pauli exclusion dictates opposite spin. Additionofl z assumofm l valuesgives: M L = m l (electron1)+m l (electron2) =
Spectroscopic Term | Term Symbol | Atomic Term Symbol
Term symbol is an abbreviated description of the total angular momentum quantum numbers in a multi-electron atom. However, even a single electron can also be described by a term symbol. Each energy level of an atom with a given electron configuration is described by not only the electron configuration but also its own term symbol, as the energy ...
WebElements Periodic Table » Helium » the essentials
Helium atoms have 2 electrons and the shell structure is 2. The ground state electronic configuration of neutral helium is 1s2 and the term symbol of helium is 1S0. Helium is one of the so-called noble gases. Helium gas is an unreactive, colourless, and odourless monoatomic gas. Helium is available in pressurised tanks.
