Chondrocyte - Wikipedia
Chondrocytes (/ ˈkɒndrəsaɪt, - droʊ -/, [1] from Greek χόνδρος (chondros) 'cartilage' and κύτος (kytos) 'cell') are the only cells found in healthy cartilage. They produce and maintain the cartilaginous matrix, which consists mainly of collagen and proteoglycans.
Histology, Chondrocytes - StatPearls - NCBI Bookshelf
2023年4月17日 · Chondrocytes maintain the extracellular matrix (ECM) and produce the cartilage matrix. Surrounded by collagenous fibers, chondrocytes release substances to make cartilage strong yet flexible. In general, chondrocytes are found within intervertebral discs and in any form of articular cartilage (AC).

What Are Chondrocytes?, Structure, Location, Function - BYJU'S
Chondrocytes are cells producing and maintaining the cartilage matrix. They are vital in sustaining homeostasis in the AC joints rendering cushioning in the joint movements. Chondrocytes drift apart from each other by the cartilage matrix. These cells take charge of chondral repair.
Chondrocyte - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Chondrocytes are highly specialized cells that differentiate from clusters of mesenchymal cells during skeletal embryogenesis. The chondrocyte synthesizes and secretes the components of the extracellular matrix, primarily proteoglycans and type II collagen.
Growth Plate Chondrocytes: Skeletal Development, Growth and …
Growth plate chondrocytes play central roles in the proper development and growth of endochondral bones. Particularly, a population of chondrocytes in the resting zone expressing parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) is now recognized as ...
The Role of Chondrocyte Morphology and Volume in Controlling …
Articular chondrocytes are exclusively responsible for the turnover of the extracellular matrix (ECM) of hyaline cartilage. However, chondrocytes are phenotypically unstable and, if they de-differentiate into hypertrophic or fibroblastic forms, will ...
Chondrocyte Roles in Cartilage Health and Adaptation
2024年10月22日 · Chondrocytes are the architects of cartilage, orchestrating the synthesis and maintenance of the extracellular matrix, which is primarily composed of collagen and proteoglycans. These components provide the structural integrity and resilience necessary for cartilage to perform its functions.
The Origin and Fate of Chondrocytes: Cell Plasticity in …
Here, we discuss the origin of chondrocytes, their destiny, and their plasticity in relationship to bone growth, articulation, and formation of the trabeculae. We also consider these processes from a biological, clinical, and evolutionary perspective.
Difference Between Chondroblasts and Chondrocytes
2017年8月30日 · Chondroblasts are a type of immature cells whereas chondrocytes are a type of mature cells. The main difference between chondrocytes and chondroblasts is that chondroblasts secrete the extracellular matrix of the cartilage whereas chondrocytes are involved in the maintenance of the cartilage.
