RIM-8 Talos - Wikipedia
Bendix RIM-8 Talos was a long-range naval surface-to-air missile (SAM), among the earliest SAMs to equip United States Navy ships. The Talos used radar beam riding for guidance to the vicinity of its target, and semi-active radar homing (SARH) for terminal guidance.

In 1951 development began on the XSAM-N-6, the prototype Talos missile. It was the first full sized Talos missile and had a range of 50 nautical miles. It lead to the development of the First Tactical Talos SAM-N-6b in 1955. Numerous problems arose during the testing of this missile and several modifications were made to solve them.
There were two types of missile, each having intercept ranges up to 50 nautical miles. One missile carried a command-detonated nuclear warhead, and the other, a proximity-fuze-detonated continuous-rod warhead.

This is the Talos ship-to-air missile used by the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1979, and developed by the Bendix Corporation. The Talos had a ramjet main stage and a first-stage, solid-fuel rocket booster that burned for two seconds, then dropped off after it had accelerated the missile to the high speed necessary for the ramjet to operate.

The RIM-8 Talos is an early Cold War era surface to air missile of US origin. It was developed in the 1950's to provide the US navy with a long range weapon to defend against bombers and guided missiles.
Talos missile was introduced into the Fleet in May 1958, with the recommissioning of USS Galveston (CLG-3). The principal time-determining factor in introducing Talos to the Fleet was ship conversion, a four-year task, following a decision to proceed on a satisfactory missile design. Talos was the first surface-to-air and surface-to-surface guided missile developed by the U.S. Navy. It was a product of the Bumblebee program that started during World War II, along with the other "Ts", RIM-2 Terrier and RIM-24 Tartar.
