Thousands of supporters of Pakistan’s imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan have defied a lockdown, tear gas and widespread arrests to head to the capital to demand his release.
The world’s chemical weapons watchdog on Monday said it had found traces of tear gas in samples taken last month on the front line with Russia in Ukraine’s central-east Dnipropetrovsk region.
Police responded by firing tear gas canisters. The protesters surrounded the building in the city center, broke windows and threw stones and other objects despite calls by organizers to remain calm.
