Two Democrats and one Libertarian are seeking their party's nomination for an open Urbandale-based Iowa House seat this year. Iowa House District 44 covers Urbandale and parts of Des Moines.

In this year's most expensive legislative race, Democrat Matt Blake, a former Urbandale council member, defeated Republican incumbent Brad Zaun, who sought a sixth term in the Iowa Senate.
