The remains of a woman found dead on a reservation in southwestern South Dakota in January has been identified as Michelle Elbow Shield, a Sioux woman who went missing more than a year ago.

Michelle Elbow Shield was last seen in Rapid City in October 2023, officials said Abigail Adams is a Human Interest Writer and Reporter for PEOPLE. She has been working in journalism for seven years.
