Experts have uncovered a new tarantula species, which has now become the hairiest member of its kind. The new species has been named Trichopelma grande by researchers, Newsweek reported.

Hank Guarisco, a Lawrence-based independent arachnid researcher, said more than 500 species of spiders live in Kansas but probably only one common breed of tarantula called Texas browns.

The Satan tarantula was not yet fully mature when it came to the lab. It was covered with hair and was just under two inches in length. It had eight eyes, eight legs, and a long fringe on its face.

The exhibition, featuring climbable statues of an eagle, orangutan and tarantula, will be on display through Sept. 14.
