New Hampshire officials are warning residents about a "smishing" scam that uses the E-ZPass logo in text messages.

If you receive an unsolicited text, email, or other message about outstanding toll fees, do not click any links included with it, the Department of Transportation warned this week. “NH E-ZPass will never send text messages requesting payment for tolls with late fees,

The scammers appear to be targeting phone numbers with 603 area codes, without knowing whether a number is affiliated with any of the state’s roughly 588,000 E-ZPass accounts.

Authorities are reminding New Hampshire residents to stay vigilant following reports of a new “smishing” scam.
