Chuck Hart and his crew were painters, welders and builders. Then, amid ravaging flames, they became firefighters.

Firefighters are working to extinguish flames at a home in the 2000 block of Kaufman Street just before 6:30 a.m.

Authorities said the three men were part of an out-of-state roofing crew working on storm-damaged homes in the area. The men’s ages and identities were not released. No arrests have been made.

It was not intentional. There is no excuse. It’s really disheartening what occurred,” said developer David Martin.
