The Long View amply demonstrates that Jay DeFeo and Joan Brown may be the best known Bay Area women artists who worked in abstraction, but they were far from alone.

The July 29 Bonhams sale of American Art was led by strong prices for works across all genres and the top lot was John Koch’s “Siesta,” painted in 1962, which realized $596,075.
