Amazon.com pumped another $4 billion into OpenAI competitor Anthropic, as the e-commerce giant goes up against Big Tech rivals in a race to capitalize on generative artificial intelligence technology.

Anthropic’s latest funding round comes two months after OpenAI raised $6.6 billion in the largest startup investment on record. It also secured a $4 billion line of credit from a group of banks. OpenAI, which is now worth $157 billion, will invest the funds in AI research and compute infrastructure.

Amazon said on Friday that it will provide $4 billion more into the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence startup Anthropic with its Amazon Web Service becoming its primary cloud and training partner.
