For my family, it really depends on the rotating exhibits. If there are more hands on exhibits, then allow for more than a couple of hours. This museum has a lot to see, and if you go too quickly, you will miss some of the detail. You can move at your own pace of course and you can spend more time in exhibits that interest you most. I would certainly allow for a leisurely 2-3 hours to really take in all of the details. Something you see may spark a new interest. And if you don't get to see everything the first time, if you are like my family you will be making more visits. If you are only on a short stay disallowing you from a return trip, I would suggest 3 hours, so you can visit the soda fountain and try some of the old time candies.
