We made reservations online in advance to be safe, but then found out there was a tour leaving earlier, and jumped on that one when we arrived. So I wanted to be more safe than sorry. The boats are long, and can carry many people. Pricing is available on their website; not expensive.
Trying to decide about time slot booking and what happens with late arrival. Are tours done only every half hour on the hour or are there some leeway on arrival time? We're coming all the way from Toronto and can only depend on google time estimates but we want to be cautious with the scheduled time.

Are the stairs the only way to the boat tour, and can a slow person with a cane handle it ?

There are many steps going down to the boarding area and they are steep. They do that handrails and should be used. It may be a good idea to have somebody accompany.
