They will take coats and cases etc as it’s in their interest that you don’t go bounding through the exhibits like the proverbial bull in a China shop! They are also fine for you to pop back and forth to get things, as for example during the Christmas market period they expect you to go get your coat and layers at 11 ish when the market opens right outside between the natural history and art history museums.

No you don't have to purchase in advance, but if you use your Vienna pass, you get through quicker. Good Luck & enjoy.

My advice is if you can wear it, then take it off as you start to go around, as we did it will not be a problem. But yes they do ask you to place your jackets and bags (we kept our phones) …

But yes they do ask you to place your jackets and bags (we kept our phones) in a locker which in the Natural History Museum was free all that was said was that we could leave a tip. Enjoy your visit it will be worth while.
