We are two hikers hoping to keep costs low by finding other hikers to join. Does anyone have suggestions on how to find and join other groups? Is there a hostel or cheap place to stay where hikers would pass through? Can we just wait at the park office? Also, we plan to hike next week (December 14, 2016). There's honestly not much cost involved - the fee for a tour guide is really reasonable, as are cost of staying at the huts (and I think it was per person). The whole atmosphere there is very loose and casual, and rates are highly negotiable. When I went, there was a bar on the way up towards the base. I think that's a good bet to find other travelers. Right now it's summer in Malawi, so if your question is regarding cold weather preventing you from summitting, I don't think it's a concern.
