Could you drive and watch the lights ? Or do u have to hike to see them ? Also were you guided by a company ?

You park at the lot and you walk an easy 300 feet to the lower viewing point and from there you can see the lights of downtown Anchorage. No company, just self touring.
We will not have a rental car. We have a time constraint and cannot use the flattop shuttle as it is afternoon only. Are there any other ways to get there? Seems like a cab would be really pricey. We need to go in the morning and be back to anchorage by early afternoon.

If it's moose, be very quiet don't turn your back, back up slowly, if they charge find huge tree quickly, if it hits the tree go to another and hide behind that one.
Would it be difficult to do this hike with a child in a Kelty backpack?

You can hike the first part of it, but I don't believe it would be safe to go to the top with any sort of child or baby backpack. The top is too steep and footing is unstable. Safety first! :-)
